Rating: 4 out of 5.

Not many competitions are as peaceful and good-humoured as Landscape Artist of the Year, in which a group of amateurs, professionals and hobbyists travel to six of our finest National Trust properties to capture their bucolic beauty on canvas, in the hope of winning a £10,000 commission for the Trust’s art collection.

Frank Skinner and Joan Bakewell are our spirited hosts, with judges Tai Shan Schierenberg, Kate Bryan and Kathleen Soriano. There’s a four-hour time limit, so it’s not pressure-free, but is still a calming, highbrow departure from most televised competitions (though does lack the daft charm of our beloved Bake Off).
