Performance Live: Get a Round

Summary

Manchester-based trio Eggs Collective push the boundaries of traditional performance space as friendships, politics and pints collide between the jukebox of a much-loved `real' pub in their home city. Three spirited friends hell-bent on having a good time, wonder whether a big night out can save the world. Sara Cocker, Lowri Evans and Leonie Higgins head this critically acclaimed theatrical comedy, offering an amusing, messy and unflinching look at comradeship and belonging, now adapted for television.

Review

Rating: 3 out of 5.

If you fancy an Edinburgh Fringe experience but can’t get to Scotland, try this instead. Eggs Collective consists of three raucous women wearing sparkly dresses and high heels who are hell bent on having a legendary night out in a sticky-floored Manchester pub.

In this Fringe-style theatrical performance, the audience is given nicknames such as a “frottage of pervs” or “Hugh What?” and the alcohol-fuelled comedy skitters from dubious anecdotes, bad karaoke and selfies to Cheesy Wotsits, political rants and dancing on tables. It’s loud, it’s raw and it’s coarse, so it won’t appeal to everyone. But it has its moments.
