Episode 29: The X Factor

Summary

Last week, music fans around the country breathed a sigh of relief as Honey G was voted off. Now the serious business of finding a successor to Louisa Johnson begins as Emily Middlemas, 5 After Midnight, Matt Terry and Saara Aalto take the stage for the semi-final. They'll be performing Christmas songs, so the atmosphere should be quite jolly - although whether it'll be a case of peace and love on the judges' panel, knowing their acts are all fighting for a coveted place in next week's grand final, is another matter. Dermot O'Leary will be on hand to offer everyone some much needed moral support.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

You know Christmas really is just around the corner when the X Factor semi-final shatters someone’s dreams at the final hurdle. We’ve said so long to some big characters at this point in the competition. Mary Byrne, the supermarket worker turned Saturday-night diva, was sent home by the judges in 2010.

The delightful Diana Vickers departed during the semi-finals in 2008. And back in the first-ever series, Tabby Callaghan waved farewell, leaving G4 and Steve Brookstein to battle it out for X Factor glory. With everything to play for in next weekend’s final, the battle for survival is on.
