Episode 27: The X Factor

Summary

Last week saw one of the most controversial sing-offs of the series so far as Honey G and Ryan sang for their places in the contest, with three judges voting to keep the rapper - causing a furore on social media. Now the pressure has never been higher as she, Emily Middlemas, 5 After Midnight, Matt Terry and Saara Aalto battle for a place in next week's semi-final - and to add to the pressure the theme is Louis Loves - songs chosen by the veteran judge. As always, judges Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh will be listening out for flat notes as the potential pop stars face their most important performances so far, with Dermot O'Leary keeping things ticking over.

Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

We’ve seen everything on The X Factor this series, from Honey G’s take on Vanilla Ice to Simon’s big-toe malfunction and two grown men having a carefully constructed conflict about a piece of undercooked chicken.

As the series hurtles toward its final few Saturday nights on air for another year we can’t help but wonder where we go from here?

ITV clearly believes there’s life in the old dog yet, but Cowell and co had better get their thinking caps on for 2017.

Maybe they’ll find inspiration in Gary Barlow’s Take That-themed talent show, Let It Shine.
