Episode 26: Holker Hall 1

Summary

Fiona Bruce presents the show from the Lake District. Items brought in to be valued include a rare collection of signed Beatrix Potter first editions belonging to descendants of the author's solicitor, a desk that belonged to the last Russian tsar which was bought following the revolution, some Edwardian weightlifting equipment and a set of over 100 vintage firefighters' helmets.

Review

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Often the best segments of the Roadshow are the ones where we meet a punter with an unlikely passion – like the woman who adored vintage air stewardess uniforms and over several decades had gathered a pristine collection.

This episode’s idiosyncratic offerings include a former firefighter who arrives with over 100 vintage fire helmets. How do you put a price on those? In the same vein, there’s a selection of Edwardian weightlifting equipment that is, apparently, still being put to good use by its 75-year-old owner.

Elsewhere, there’s a collection of glam rock stage costumes and – suitably for the Lake District setting – some signed first editions by Beatrix Potter that are still owned by descendants of the writer’s solicitor.
