Episode 24: New Lanark 2

Summary

Fiona Bruce presents a second show from New Lanark on the banks of the Clyde, where items brought in to be valued include diamonds that were found after being hidden inside an upholstered chair, a claret jug that was rescued from a pawn shop, and a banner for Britain's oldest subscription library, founded in 1741.

Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

We’re still in New Lanark on the banks of the Clyde, where several owners get a pleasant surprise about their treasures. An art deco ceramic statuette has a value despite its damage; a “boring” plate is worth ten times as much because of what’s written on the back; and a 1930s “blackamoor” stand makes Ronnie Archer Morgan do a double take because it’s the best he’s ever seen.

However, the most romantic story is about a basket chair bought at auction for a fiver. When the owner’s husband eventually reupholstered it, he found several valuable items hidden inside that he later gave her as wedding-anniversary and Valentine’s Day gifts.
