Episode 20: Trelissick

Summary

Fiona Bruce and the team head for the attractive gardens of Trelissick, near Truro in Cornwall. Objects under examination include a bust of Winston Churchill found at the bottom of a lake and a group of medals owned by a proud grandson. A lifebelt tells the graphic story of a shipwreck off the Lizard peninsula in which the crew were rescued in desperate circumstances.

Review

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Sometimes the Roadshow experts fall in love with an object, even though it may not be especially valuable. On a windy day in Trelissick near Truro, Christopher Payne loses his heart to a charming little milk stool: “It’s absolutely gorgeous. You lucky person!” he gushes to the slightly surprised owner.

Elsewhere we hear an emotional tale about some service medals dating from the Boer War through both world wars. Some were pawned in the 1920s by the recipient to buy food for his children but almost 75 years later his grandson traced them to America and bought them back. And a lifebelt tells a graphic story about a local shipwreck.
