Episode 9: Baddesley Clinton 2

Summary

Fiona Bruce and the team value more rarities at Baddesley Clinton, near Solihull, including a painting entitled The Nudist Colony's Annual Dinner Dance and a silver box which is exceptionally rare but which had a lucky escape from being seriously damaged. Two gold boxes used by 19th-century surgeons to apply snuff provoke a surprised reaction from the crowd.

Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

For the second Sunday running, Fiona Bruce and her team of experts are enjoying the sumptuous grounds of Baddesley Clinton, the 16th-century Forest of Arden manor house with its stunning moat and gatehouse.

What is it with the amateur collectors of Warwickshire and their precious boxes? After last week’s silver box with somewhat unusual contents, another similar item gets one of the valuers excited by its rarity, as do two 19th-century gold snuff boxes, used by the wealthy surgeons of the day. That prompts gasps from the crowds of onlookers politely jostling to be visible in the background – gasps that rise a semitone for a painting irresistibly entitled The Nudist Colony’s Annual Dinner Dance.
