Episode 1: O Brave New World

Summary

Frank Hathaway finds an unlikely partner in Lu Shakespeare when the pair are thrown together to catch a killer and clear her name. Comedy drama about an oddball pair of private detectives who investigate crime in Stratford-upon-Avon, starring Mark Benton and Jo Joyner.

Review

There’s more than a touch of Midsomer Murders about this gently comedic drama series starring Mark Benton and Jo Joyner, even though it’s set in Warwickshire (it’s all very half-timbered Tudor) rather than Oxfordshire. He’s a down-at-heel private investigator while she’s a bride-to-be who suspects her charming future husband is having an affair.

The groom is murdered on their wedding day, but Frank Hathaway and Luella Shakespeare (their names, of course, a nod to Stratford-upon-Avon’s most famous son) solve the crime without too much difficulty, and set up in business together. It’s enjoyably daft and, like Father Brown, there’s nothing nasty to put you off your lunch.
