Episode 1: Alternate

Summary

Benson and Stabler investigate a case of alleged child abuse, but soon realise their attention should actually be focused on the woman who made the report. Hard-hitting drama, starring Christopher Meloni, Mariska Hargitay and Dann Florek.

Review

A new series, a new commanding officer and a new hairstyle for Olivia Benson. The hairstyle is nothing radical, but the new CO is a shock: Munch. Now cynical, conspiracy-obsessed Munch is a great character, but no natural leader, and his colleagues aren’t thrilled at the prospect of taking orders from him (Stabler flatly refuses).

However, the main event is a woman with multiple personalities who may have harmed a baby. She is played, in a tour de force of showy “Give me an Emmy” acting, by Cynthia Nixon. She won an Emmy.
