If you’re a fan of the popular Murdoch Mysteries, then this will hit the spot: it’s from the same creators, is set in Toronto and also features cosy, solved-within-the-hour period cases. Here, though, we’re in the 1920s and in the company of the Drake Private Detectives, an all-female group of sleuths led by savvy Frankie Drake (CSI’s Lauren Lee Smith), of dubious parentage. In this opener, we learn all about her small-time grifter dad and how his shady past could have links to a current investigation involving priceless missing pearls. It’s hardly revolutionary stuff, but is twisty enough to please golden-age crime devotees.
