Summary

Archaeologist Julian Richards revisits some of his most important digs to discover how science, conservation and new finds have changed people's understanding of ancient history. His journey continues with two excavations that illustrate the vastly different social roles occupied by a pair of Iron Age women. The first site uncovers evidence of the possible ritual sacrifice of a teenage girl from the Cotswolds, while the second unearths the chariot burial of a queen from 400BC, whose well preserved possessions are leading to astonishing conclusions about belief in early times.
