Review

The small human moments on this show are always great. Not just with the expectant parents but with the staff. I love the idle chats they have in the midwives’ room about McDonald’s breakfasts or whether it makes sense to use a snooze alarm in the morning. It could be any workplace, but the fact that their days are punctuated by life-and-death drama makes the banal stuff all the funnier. At one stage, a member of staff announces the most exciting delivery of the shift – “It’s the pizza!”

Meanwhile, self-confessed control freak Judith and her laid-back husband Mike while away the long hours of labour. Then her dad arrives – and the way he immediately starts peering at the hi-tech medical gear speaks volumes.

Summary

Christian couple Judith and Mike put their faith in both God and the medical staff when things don't go to plan in the delivery room, and as 17-year-old Beth's labour develops, her partner Dominic becomes more and more anxious. However, the expectant father risks missing out on the birth of his child by going for a smoke in the hospital car park. Last in the series.
