Hairdresser Naomi waddles into the maternity wing of Leeds General Infirmary in full make-up, complete with false eyelashes, to give birth to her first baby. “I like to look a bit fake,” she tells the camera. “I like to pretend I’m the black Jordan.”

In another delivery suite, single mother-to-be Bianca (22) has chosen her son’s name. He will be called Kale, to the bafflement of Bianca’s granny, who can’t understand why she would name her child after a kind of cabbage. In yet another room, 18-year-old Shannon wails at the prospect of an injection. Boyfriend Dale is pleased they’ll be such young parents: “[It has] the advantage of getting it out of the way.”

Summary

The documentary follows 32-year-old Naomi, who arrives to give birth wearing false eyelashes and full make-up, and single mother-to-be Bianca, who was shocked to discover she was pregnant a few days after her 22nd birthday. Meanwhile, Shannon and her partner Dale were both 17 when they announced they were expecting a baby and have had to deal with people who claim they are too young for the responsibility.
