Review

This is why we love BBC4. It’s the channel where Friday night is music night, where every gamut is run and every genre hopped, from Das Rheingold to Teenage Kicks.

So while the evening begins with a profile of golf-loving bass-baritone Bryn Terfel, it swerves via the Proms to a new documentary about Derry’s great musical sons, the Undertones.

Is there a music lover out there who loves both Terfel and Feargal Sharkey? Possibly not, but respective fan bases will enjoy a) an insight into the Welsh singer’s musical life, with contributions from Huw Edwards, and b) interviews and archive clips from punk’s most perfectly formed band.

Summary

Documentary charting the history of the new wave band from Derry in Northern Ireland, renowned for pop anthem Teenage Kicks, which launched their career in 1978. Featuring interviews with members, their friends and families, who provide an insight into the men who created such hits as Jimmy Jimmy and My Perfect Cousin.
