Review

Chelsea have an impressive record in the FA Cup in recent seasons. They were runners-up in 2017, winners in 2018, and runners-up again in 2020, and the way their season has mostly been going since Thomas Tuchel took over at Stamford Bridge, they won’t fear even runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City in today’s semi-final.

The 3-1 home defeat they suffered at City’s hands at the start of January was shortly before Tuchel arrived at the club, and they look a very different outfit now, not least with the continued flowering of Mason Mount, scorer of a wonderful goal against Porto in the Champions League earlier this month.

Chelsea remain in contention for a place in next season’s Champions League, but City, Cup winners in 2019 when they demolished Watford 6-0, are by some distance the dominant force in domestic football right now, and might just have the best player in the world in midfield maestro Kevin de Bruyne.

Summary

Chelsea v Manchester City (Kick-off 5.30pm). Gary Lineker presents all the action from the opening semi-final at Wembley Stadium. The Blues were defeated by Arsenal in last season's final and last lifted the trophy in 2018, while the Citizens prevailed a season later when becoming the first team to win the domestic treble, a feat they are aiming to repeat this this time around, and whichever team progresses will fancy their chances in the final against Leicester City or Southampton. With analysis from Alan Shearer and Micah Richards.
