Episode 3: Season 1, Episode 3

Summary

Matt reveals his plan for increasing biodiversity in the woodland and planting the apple tree orchard that his parents Mike and Janice have always dreamed of. Farrier John pays the donkeys a visit and is surprised to find them living next to an unexpected new neighbour, and Matt visits the garage to see whether they've had any luck getting dad his dad's old Dodge up and running

Review

The problem with this series is that adequate, well-meaning 40-something sons will end up getting it in the neck from mums or dads asking, “Why can’t you be more like that lovely Matt Baker?” And yes, he is lovely, but he doesn’t half set unattainable goals.

This week, he’s planting the apple orchard that his parents have always dreamt of, driving to the Scottish borders to pick up a flock of ewes and then organising an enchanting woodland cookout. He’s even made progress with the old Dodge car that’s been turning to rust in a corner of the farm. It may not be Greased Lightning, but it’s certainly now singing better than it was in last week’s episode.
