Review

It struck me long ago that much of Larry and Jeff’s appeal is down to them being like a modern-day Laurel and Hardy — best mates/prize chumps pootling around LA’s palm-lined avenues, incurring the wrath of a vituperative wife (Susie). But it takes guest star Ricky Gervais to point this out to their faces, albeit in an up-market New York diner.
Yes, the action at last moves to Manhattan in an unmissable episode that sees the two obnoxious titans of semi-improvised comedy squaring up to each other. Gervais (appearing in a deathly Broadway play) cuts through Larry David’s blather, fleeces him of $500 and manages to trump him at every turn — until a satisfying, final turnaround on the Subway.
And look out for another Brit, Ruthie Henshall, the butter-wouldn’t-melt musical theatre star, who silences Larry with a tirade of Anglo-Saxon abuse. Sublime.
Summary
Larry is hailed as a hero after accidentally defusing a tense situation on a flight to New York by tripping over his shoelaces. Upon arriving in the city, Jeff asks him to help sign Ricky Gervais for his agency - but his plan to charm the comedian ends in disaster. Guest starring Ruthie Henshall, Samantha Mathis and Chris Parnell.
