Christchurch Mansion 2

Series 43 - Episode 10 Christchurch Mansion 2

After being there back in January, the Roadshow returns to Christchurch Park in Ipswich. This is of course Gainsborough country and, while we don’t see any locals whipping out one of his originals, we do hear about the time when the master portrait painter was employed to indulge in the 18th century version of Instagram influencers digitally altering their appearance.

Other highlights include a pristine set of pistols and a trunk full of Chinese bric-a-brac with a great story attached. And if you’re a fan of those paintings of dogs playing snooker — and who isn’t? — here’s a new thrill: a bronze figurine of cats playing billiards.

Fiona Bruce presents from Christchurch Park in Ipswich, Suffolk, where treasures include an Imperial Chinese porcelain vase fit for an emperor and some intriguing portraits related to the Profumo scandal of the 1960s. Also featured are intricate, solid gold lapel badges from the Australian gold fields and a pair of delicate paintings by a famous Suffolk artist.
