Review

This episode opens with a familiar move. A cyclist speeds along a city street. Traffic lights change. She skids to a halt. She gets into a minor feud with a boy racer in a hot hatch. This will end badly any moment, you think. You’re waiting for the accident... but it never comes, because this isn’t a blue-light crisis but our introduction to ex-Army action woman Dr Sam Nicholls (Charlotte Salt). From the word go, she makes her presence felt with “tools civilians can only dream about”.

Alongside her first case (which goes from adrenaline-fuelled spectacular to heavy religious fable), there’s a chance for good old Noel, the quiet man of Casualty, to have a storyline
all to himself.

Summary

Charlotte Salt (The Tudors) joins the cast as Sam Nicholls, an ambitious Army medic on secondment. She begins by joining a paramedic crew for the day, but has to rely on her military training when an aggressive driver rams the ambulance off the road. Meanwhile, Noel is keen to increase security after a run-in with an angry patient, but an encounter with a grieving mother (Tracie Bennett) changes his mind.
