As part of its 40th anniversary celebrations,
Children in Need
is giving us something very different: a rare look at the private life of Pudsey Bear. Apparently, we are going to see him in “a whole new light”, so perhaps all those rumours about backstage diva demands and a long-running feud with Paddington are true? I hear they’ve not spoken in years.
There are teddies of a different kind in a new visit to The Repair Shop, where stuffed-bear fixers Amanda and Julie are undertaking a restoration for a young girl who could do with a treat. And if you’re thinking that tonight’s event is being plagued with more technical difficulties than usual, then don’t fret – it’s just the cast of The Goes Wrong Show with a special sketch.
Alongside all this will be other TV favourites that have become a staple part of the night, including Strictly Come Dancing, EastEnders, Doctor Who and the last leg of The One Show’s rickshaw challenge.
Encouraging us to dig deep in this most of testing of years will be Alex Scott, Mel Giedroyc, Chris Ramsey and Stephen Mangan, who will all be glammed up and game for anything at the BBC’s Elstree studios.
Summary
A jam-packed evening of socially distanced entertainment, with exclusive sketches, exciting performances, music, dance and a few surprises. Mel Giedroyc is joined by Alex Scott, Chris Ramsey and Stephen Mangan, who will all be co-hosting the fund-raising telethon for the first time. There are Strictly Come Dancing, EastEnders and Doctor Who-related surprises in store, while Matt Baker, Ade Adepitan and the team of six young riders make their way to the finishing line after 332 miles around the Goodwood Estate as part of The One Show's 2020 Rickshaw Challenge. Beverley Knight and Shawn Mendes perform, while The Repair Shop team gives one very special girl a surprise to treasure for ever.
