Review

It was only after Kenneth Williams died, with the publication of his diaries, that the complex and sad life of this adored comedian finally came to light: the loneliness bordering on desolation and his curious habits (ie not letting visitors use the loo in his flat, instead pointing them to the public toilets in the tube station down the road).

But that was the private Kenneth Williams. Here his great mate Gyles Brandreth takes us through the public life of a man known for his comedy characters, his wit and his fund of outrageous stories. The picture is completed by access to family photographs and letters.

Summary

Gyles Brandreth narrates this tribute to the beloved actor, featuring the comedy milestones of his career. Kenneth Williams dominated radio, with shows such as Hancock's Half Hour, Round the Horne, and Just a Minute, and was a staple of 26 of the 31 Carry On films. The documentary features access to Williams's rarely seen photograph albums and correspondence from the star and his family.
