Review

We’ve all heard how taking part in this show is so intense, it’s like being in a Strictly bubble. Well, this year that description is more appropriate than ever as the 12 celebrities and their pro partners are in social bubbles because of Covid-19. And as Craig Revel-Horwood has commented, “If two people don’t get on… it will either magnify the joy – or the pain!” We’ll see if he’s right this evening as they step out on to the dancefloor for the first time.

While there’s no suggestion that anyone will be wearing face masks or dancing two metres apart, it will look different from previous years. No Bruno Tonioli for starters (although he will Zoom in for future results shows on Sundays), the judges are on separate podiums and the couples won’t be performing in front of a packed studio. But it’s still going to be fab-u-lous, darling. Among the front contenders – according to the bookies anyway – are EastEnders’ Maisie Smith, the Wanted’s Max George and Made in Chelsea’s Jamie Laing.

Summary

Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman present as the 12 celebrity and professional dancer pairings take to the dancefloor for their debut performances. Each of the performances will be critiqued and scored by Strictly judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse, but the competitors will escape the public vote until the following weekend.
