Riviera

Series 3 - Episode 1

Review

In a bid to escape her dubious past, Georgina Clios (Julia Stiles) has changed her surname to Ryland and embarked on a slightly dull career lecturing on art restitution. But a brief encounter with the charismatic Gabriel Hirsch (Rupert Graves) thankfully returns Georgina to the glamorous settings that are the trademark of this glossy potboiler.

As the third series begins, the pair jet off to Venice searching for a Picasso stolen by the Nazis, but within minutes they’re being chased by villains and a dead body ends up in the canal. Added to that is an inexplicable link to the mayor of Buenos Aires and a plea for Georgina to return to Saint-Tropez. Presumably it will eventually make sense, but then nobody watches Riviera for its clever plotting or snappy dialogue. It’s all about the sensational clothes, opulent villas and cosmopolitan lifestyles.

Summary

While Georgina attempts to restore order to her life by reinventing herself as an art restitution lecturer, noted expert Gabriel Hirsch has other ideas.
