Review

Sue Perkins applies her own brand of breezy empathy to one of the most dangerous and difficult stretches of land in the world, the border between the US and Mexico.
Perkins is a good broadcaster and she negotiates the difficult balancing act between being Sue the comedian and Sue the serious as she tastes tequila brands at the start of her journey, then talks to a Mexican mother whose 16-year-old son was shot dead by border patrol officers.
Along the way she hits the road with Arizona sheriff Mark Lamb, who wears a ten-gallon hat and proudly shows her his collection of guns. Lamb and his team are fighting a long, gruelling battle with the ruthless Mexican cartels that traffic people and drugs, loading up illegal migrants with huge packs of marijuana before sending them on a hot and brutal trek across the border into the US. Part two is tomorrow.

Summary

Part one of two. The comedian travels along one of the world's most contentious borders, visiting places in America and Mexico to find out what life is like on both sides. Sue starts her journey at the western end of the border in the Mexican city of Tijuana, where she helps Honduran volunteers building a hostel for fellow refugees fleeing violence in their country.
