Review

Anyone who likes cars will at some point have gazed admiringly at a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. With its flowing bodywork, it was the 1960s sports car that looked like a 1950s rocket – but sadly, drove like a Beetle. Because underneath, that’s what it was, with a puny air-cooled 50hp engine in the back. But this oily-fingered series has the solution to that: what if you take classic cars like the VW and turn them electric?

At a workshop in the Welsh hills Richard “Moggy” Morgan and his mechanics have the know-how; so with much talk of flanges, adaptor plates and doughnut bushes they re-tool a 1967 VW with a 120hp electric motor and a whole load of batteries.

Summary

The Karmann Ghia looks beautiful, but it never went as fast as it looks. Moggy and his team have been asked to convert it to electric power.
