Review

Where would British television be without Miriam Margolyes to play batty old ladies? Here she is a noisy, bonkers neighbour of poised Auntie Ruth (Eileen Atkins) whose son is a wrong ’un who pinches Ruth’s hubcaps for his dreadful art installations.

The old dear raves about stomach pains and how her son is trying to poison her, while he looks broody and menacing. Doc Martin, meanwhile, can never remember her name: “Do you know where you are, Mrs… thing?”

Back at the surgery the dozy new receptionist seems barely capable of rational thought and Louisa decides she’s going to leave Portwenn with her baby and set up a home in London with Martin.

Summary

New receptionist Morwenna Newcross (Jessica Ransom) gets off to a bad start after arriving late on her first day, and her hyperactive behaviour leads Martin to believe she is high on drugs. Ruth tries to deal with an intruder on the farm who has stolen the hub caps from her car, and the sleepless nights begin to take their toll on Martin and Louisa, who are running out of ways to comfort their constantly wailing baby. Guest starring Andrew-Lee Potts (Primeval).
