So how has nature been getting on, without humans swarming all over it, getting in the way? For eight nights this week and next, the ‘watches’ team bring us their regular update on UK wildlife, ideal for those of us, many of us, who are stuck indoors and could do with a wider horizon.
At its best, these shows open a nightly window onto natural dramas we know are happening out there in woods and fields, and on moors and coastlines, but that are wonderful to witness, and sometimes, if the cameras are lucky – see live.
Sadly, current restrictions mean Michaela Strachan is stranded in South Africa, which means there will be no live presenter in Scotland this time; nor will there be one in South Yorkshire: Gillian Burke will instead be at the Beaver Project in Cornwall where she was based for Springwatch. (though we will still see reports filmed at Tentsmuir and Old Moor through the winter.)
And of course, a well-insulated Chris Packham will be on his home ground to anchor proceedings from the New Forest.
Summary
New series. Winter wildlife stories from around the UK. Chris Packham will be in the New Forest watching winter transform his home, and Iolo Williams is at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales, hoping to see some murmurations. Young naturalist Indy Green will be taking us deep into Sherwood Forest on the hunt for one of our most elusive birds of prey - the goshawk.
