Episode 5: Episode 5

Summary

With the police operation pending, a nervous waiting game ensues for Charles to return to Kanit House with Marie-Andree and Ajay, but he might be one step ahead of the situation. Later, as a clock ticks down, Herman and Charles are locked in an exhausting battle of wits

Review

There are points in this episode when it looks as if our serial poisoner’s number is up. And yet, whatever the odds, we can’t quite believe that he will be caught, partly because Charles/Alain, as played by Tahar Rahim, is so stone-cold masterful, with the sang-froid to brazen his way through any trap and slither free (and partly because there are three episodes to come).

“You must simply trust me and all will be well,” he urges Marie-Andrée (Jenna Coleman), as the Bangkok police close in… Meanwhile, it’s getting a bit Laurel and Hardy between diplomat-turned-sleuth Knippenberg and his Belgian helper Paul, who get themselves another fine mess thanks to the Dutchman’s “righteous little clogs”.
