Review

Tormented vicar Will Davenport makes a highly indulgent display, getting drunk at his posh mum’s house and making a spectacle of himself drinking champagne straight from the bottle, before ending up asleep on the vicarage carpet.

Will has decided to take the blame for last week’s boxing club horrors, so he has a good old wallow in despair until he’s called by Geordie to help investigate a murder. A woman is found stabbed to death on Jesus Green in Cambridge and her body is arranged in the shape of a crucifix.

By a convoluted means the inquiry takes the lads to a curious convent packed with suspicious and rude nuns, with a presiding sister (Tracy Ann Oberman) who clearly wears false eyelashes. Yes, of course there is sexual tension between her and Will.

Meanwhile, curate Leonard meets his dad, a maudlin, drunk Northern boor. But he has a Big Secret.

Summary

When a woman is found dead laid out in the shape of a crucifix on Jesus Green, Will and Geordie are led to a nearby convent where they meet steely Sister Grace, who rules over her flock with an iron fist. Even more sinister is the picture that starts to emerge as they match the nuns to a series of unsolved missing persons cases from the previous five years. Meanwhile, when Leonard's father, Russell, arrives in Grantchester, it's clear there's no love lost between parent and son. Robson Green, Tom Brittney, Tracy-Ann Oberman and Sean Gilder star. Last in the series.
