Review

The Menai Strait’s bridges are magnificent constructions, but they now have competition when it comes to sheer awesomeness. As Mehreen Baig gets wowed by the engineering, you may grow distracted by the sight of her luminous yellow nails. They’re absolute talons. And they probably emit a brighter glow than the one cast by the South Stack Lighthouse off Holy Island, which is where Adrian Chiles is heading to puff his way down (and then back up) the 400 steps on the cliff face’s switchback stairway.

In for an easier ride is Tudur Owen, who fulfils a childhood dream to become a trucker when he is tempted to swap his career as a comedian for a life with the Holyhead brotherhood of the road.

Summary

Adrian Chiles and Mehreen Baig explore Anglesey, the largest island in the Irish Sea. Mehreen recalls the story of the Menai Strait's magnificent bridges, while Adrian dons a wet suit to meet local paddleboarding legend Sian Sykes and see how she's playing a key role in helping rid the island of waste plastic. Plus, comedian Tudur Owen fulfils a boyhood dream by joining the Holyhead truckers at their brand new truck stop, Lucy Martin explores the shipwreck that changed the way weather is forecast and wildlife expert Patrick Ayree gets up close to the wild ponies of Newborough Warren.
