William Wisting (Sven Nordin( is a well-meaning, damaged detective haunted by the death of his wife, who hulks around the snow in the Norwegian town of Larvik, looking a bit like Burt Lancaster and trying to ensure his grown-up kids don’t hate him because he’s Devoted to His Job.

Actually, Wisting is a welcome addition to chilly winter nights on BBC4, though the story might be formulaic… a serial killer has been murdering young, attractive, blonde women after keeping them prisoner in wells.

But the bleak, snowy setting gives the drama edge when a body is found in a field of Christmas trees. As the festive celebrations hit their stride two FBI agents (played by Carrie-Anne Moss and Richie Campbell) arrive to investigate the victim’s possible links to a dangerous wanted man. Meanwhile, Wisting’s journalist daughter has a case of her own.

Summary

New series. William Wisting, a widowed senior detective in the Norwegian coastal town of Larvik, leads a murder investigation after a body is found in snow underneath a Christmas tree. The clothes on the corpse show that the person killed was an American, and an FBI team is immediately flown in and an international hunt for the killer begins.
