Summary

Concluding coverage of the final of the prestigious ranking tournament at the Barbican Centre in York, played over the best of 19 frames, with a maximum of 11 to be played in this session. Although he had only made sporadic appearances all season, Ronnie O'Sullivan showed no sign of rust as he retained the title last year, overcoming a valiant second-session display by Mark Allen to prevail 10-6 and become the most successful player in the competition's history ahead of Steve Davis with seven triumphs. The result also gave `The Rocket' a 19th Triple Crown title, having also won five world titles and The Masters seven times, to put him one ahead of Stephen Hendry at the top of the all-time list, as he further strengthened his claim to being the greatest player of all time. Presented by Hazel Irvine, with commentary and analysis from Steve Davis, John Parrott, Ken Doherty, Stephen Hendry, Alan McManus and Dennis Taylor.
