Review

From the moment it was announced, this election debate between the Labour and Conservative leaders was controversial. Why is there no Jo Swinson, the Liberal Democrats howled? And for that matter, why exclude the SNP, Plaid Cymru or the Brexit Party?
But clearly, ITV has decided a straight showdown between the two most likely candidates to be our next Prime Minister is the heavyweight political punch-up viewers want to see. It will at least make host Julie Etchingham’s job easier that she is not having to moderate a broad panel of politicians. Instead, Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn will look to land killer blows in what is sure to be a rancorous occasion.
Summary
Julie Etchingham moderates the first live debate between the leaders of the Conservative and Labour parties, as they outline their positions on the issues facing the country in the run-up to the General Election.
