UEFA Euro 2020 Live: England v Montenegro

Review

The football was almost an afterthought in the postmatch reports from England’s last time out, against Bulgaria in Sofia, a game scarred by ugly scenes in the stands. Here’s hoping returning to Wembley means Gareth Southgate’s men can focus on the job in hand against Montenegro, who are yet to win in seven Group A matches.

England could lose and still secure qualification to Euro 2020 come the final whistle, if second-placed Czech Republic beat third-placed Kosovo, but the Three Lions will be hungry for another big victory to match the one they secured in Podgorica in March. There, again, England’s players endured racist abuse, and responded emphatically: no doubt they’ll feel they have a point to prove again tonight.

Summary

England v Montenegro (Kick-off 7.45pm). Mark Pougatch presents coverage of the Group A qualifier at Wembley Stadium. This is England's 1,000th international match and they need at least a draw to mark the occasion by securing their place in the Euro 2020 finals. The reverse fixture saw Gareth Southgate's men claim an emphatic 5-1 victory, when the hosts took a shock lead before Michael Keane equalised, Ross Barkley scored a brace and the prolific duo of Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling added one each. With analysis from Roy Keane, Lee Dixon and Ashley Cole, and commentary by Clive Tyldesley and Glenn Hoddle.
