Episode 3: Lift Up Your Hearts - Part One

Summary

Part one of two. After a teenage boy is killed in a meth lab explosion, his inspirational head teacher Noah Taylor resolves to confront the drug dealers preying on his community. Dangerous batches of new drugs are hitting the streets, and the effects are evident to Nikki, Jack, Clarissa and Thomas as they deal with the rise in both violent and accidental deaths linked to the narcotics, while tragedy strikes at the heart of the Taylor family. Crime drama, guest starring Colin Salmon and Samantha Womack

Review

Silent Witness specialises in presenting us with a seemingly endless variety of Dumb Cops of the Week, but here we have a first – a female detective who has the temerity to sexually harass forensic pathologist Jack. She even kisses him, unbidden, at a crime scene. Cheeky.

Meanwhile, her partner is a knuckle-headed moron who is rude to bereaved families and who thinks drug addicts have no one to blame but themselves when they overdose and die. He is particularly vocal about this.

This pair are shackled to a story that tackles the twin evils of the street opioid epidemic and knife crime. At its heart is a charismatic head teacher (Colin Salmon) who inspires his kids to make the most of their lives. But they are prey for the roaming gangs of dealers who get them hooked and leave them helpless and, sometimes, dead.

The story concludes tomorrow.
