Review

The usual mix of muscular kindness, esprit de corps, bad jokes and good intentions are the plaster holding together a DIY SOS Big Build for a homelessness charity in Lancashire. Nightsafe helps vulnerable young people in Blackburn and Darwen with help from Children in Need.

But there are pressing demands on its accommodation, so a local church has offered its rundown church hall. Cue Nick Knowles and the gang, who arrive to turn a dispirited building into six self-contained flats providing temporary accommodation for young people as they are given help and support to sort out their lives.

It’s a big build, as the title says, but the kind of tradespeople upon whom the show depends are at first thin on the ground and the timetable slips badly. A round of interviews for the local press sparks some brilliant results and everyone works their magic.

Summary

In this special Children in Need edition of the show, Nick Knowles and the team come to the aid of young people who are often overlooked and very much in need of help. A team of experts and volunteers come together to help transform an old church into a new accommodation facility for six young homeless people in Blackburn, ran by local charity Nightsafe.
