Review

At one level this is a quirky, knockabout romantic comedy about the travails of Mae (Mae Martin) and George (Charlotte Ritchie). Everything should be fine between them. Crucially, they love each other to bits. And yet… it isn’t fine.

This week George goes off to a wedding with some of her vividly awful friends – but why didn’t she take Mae with her? Left behind, Mae goes into a needy spiral (“I can’t even remember what I used to think about before George.”) and even her “life raft” friend is, it turns out, “full of holes”.

The supporting cast is great – this week Pippa Haywood joins as George’s miserable divorcee mum – and under the surface of the story, there’s plenty going on.

Summary

After spending all of their time together since they met, Mae struggles with intense separation anxiety when George goes away to a wedding, and Mae turns to her new sponsor for support. While her old addictive behaviours threaten to drag Mae under, George has her own problems to deal with. Comedy, starring Mae Martin and Charlotte Ritchie.
