Review

The veteran comedy feels as if it is, very understandably, going through the motions for its final season. Still, there’s pleasure in watching a well-oiled sitcom machine tick over smoothly, even if it never works up much steam.

This episode includes a throwback to the show’s first season, as Jay asks Phil out to help fly his model plane, just as he did a decade ago, and with similarly disastrous results. It’s a barbed take on what it takes to be a good dad.

Meanwhile, Mitch and Cam mistakenly give their friends the impression they’ve split up. And as Cam says, “There are two things a gay can’t sit on – a plastic patio chair and a juicy bit of gossip.”

Summary

Cameron and Mitchell's friends mistakenly assume they have split up, while Haley attempts to cook Thanksgiving dinner as a thank you for Claire and Phil's support with the twins. Meanwhile, Phil thinks he has a chance to reclaim his dignity after their first outing 10 years ago went so wrong when Jay invites him and Dylan along to fly his model plane.
