Review

Sharkface and Poptart are hardly Romeo and Juliet but it’s hoped that when these Bermuda skinks (a tiny but very aggressive reptile) are introduced, they’ll breed. It’s risky because the males viciously bite the females to keep them still during copulation. Nice.

Elsewhere at Chester Zoo, Daissie the rock hyrax has given birth – again. She’s produced 26 pups over the past seven years – always at the same time of year. And the keepers want to persuade black rhino Magadi to mate with the flirtatious Ema. To get him interested they shovel her poo into his pen. It works, although initially his technique is a bit off.

Summary

Cameras follow adolescent babirusa Tolo, who lives with his devoted mother Sula. They are very close, enjoying mud baths and pedicures together. But Sula has a hoof problem so they must be separated for the vet to intervene, and keepers are concerned for Tolo's wellbeing in her absence. Meanwhile, laid-back rock hyraxes Daissie and her partner Nungu are expecting their eighth litter. With the birth imminent, the couple's life of ease could be a thing of the past.
