Review

Sometimes on Only Connect teams can’t answer their own questions, but are brilliant at winning bonuses when their opponents come up with nothing. It happens quite a lot here as the Electrophiles (lovers of 80s prog rock) and the Wickets (cricket lovers) wrestle unsuccessfully with their own clues, but jump in cleverly when their rivals are stumped.

There are some good moments, including an interesting factette about writer Nora Ephron’s autobiographical novel Heartburn, a nightmare head-shaker of a maths question that dismays presenter Victoria Coren Mitchell (“I admire you more for not knowing”) and even an answer that isn’t on her card, but which, miraculously, is correct.

Summary

Victoria Coren Mitchell hosts as first-round losers the Wickets and the Electrophiles return for one last chance to stay in the competition and reach the second stage. The contestants must use patience, lateral thinking and sheer inspiration to make connections between four things that may appear at first not to be linked, with one set of clues consisting of Plastic credit card, Hollywood film industry, Crown monarchy, and Westminster parliament.
