Review

After a chaotic prologue set in 1921 Tulsa, this dark fantasy vaults ahead to the present day, a world of masked vigilantes, secret societies and raining squid, where Rorschach has a terrible significance.

Described by showrunner Damon (Lost) Lindelof as a “remix” of the 80s comic-book source (as well as the 2009 Zack Snyder film), it’s a richly detailed alternate history, a spicy gumbo denoted by its varied soundtrack (hip-hop, Mozart, Oklahoma! and a key-note theme that conjures up Knight Rider).

Don Johnson turns up as a family-man police chief and Jeremy Irons plays a spoilt aristo who enjoys nude typewriting, but the show completely belongs to Regina King as a woman leading a dangerous double life.

Summary

Alternative history drama series following the actions of a group of masked vigilantes, based on the seminal graphic novel by Alan Moore. The series begins three years after a co-ordinated white supremacist attack on police and their families. Although the racist movement has been forced into the shadows, detective Angela Abar and Tulsa police chief Judd Crawford work together on a police shooting that may signal a revival of the terrorist group.
