Series 2 - Episode 2

Review

That low-level rumbling you hear is nothing to do with the Morgan 4/4 that Peter Davison and Christopher Timothy are driving. It’s the sound of their good-natured grumbles about camping, map-reading, low-slung cars, fossil hunting, each other, you name it. But really, they’re amiable travelling companions who are obviously relishing their tour of south coast resorts and the chance to take a spin in all sorts of vintage vehicles.

Undoubted highlight for Davison is being allowed to drive Bessie, the bright yellow kit car that featured in Doctor Who for two decades, although Bessie’s present custodian, Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, insists, “Actors are terrible at driving cars on camera!”

Summary

Christopher Timothy and Peter Davison travel from the southern tip of the New Forest and along the Jurassic Coast, concluding at Burgh Island and visiting popular holiday destinations of the 1930s along the way. They also get behind the wheel of some classic cars, including Agatha Christie's favourite automobile and a car made famous by Doctor Who.
