Good Job

Series 2 - Episode 6 Good Job

Review

As Motherland processes through the rituals of the primary-school year, we are gathered finally at sports day for an end-of-series flourish.

A running gag features the forbidding Mrs Lamb making distorted announcements through a megaphone that are impossible to decipher. “What’s Goebbels saying now?” Julia wonders as she gears up for another showdown with both the stony-faced teacher and her (also often stony-faced) mother.

Kevin, meanwhile, is having to miss the whole thing to do a presentation at the soft play centre where he works. I love Kevin, and it’s so beautifully typical of him that when he finally throws a strop and storms out, he can’t quite stop himself washing his mug up first.

Summary

Julia struggles to abide by the rules and clashes with Mrs Lamb as she attends her first-ever school sports day, where apparently it's no longer acceptable to cheer for individual children and spectators can only offer generic support like `good job'. Over at the Kidiverse soft-play centre, Kevin is devastated that an important work presentation means he will miss the dads' race. Liz worries that her new boyfriend is blanking her, and Anne discovers something that leads to a nasty surprise for Amanda. Last in the series.
