Review

The route gets a little bit hit and miss as the lads bike their way through Texas and New Mexico, because after a new interstate was opened, many thriving towns and businesses along Route 66 simply died. “It’s the highway of broken dreams,” says Dave Myers sadly, as they pass another ghost town.

Of course, the Hairies aren’t downhearted for long when there are burgers and chilli galore to tuck into. As part of their ongoing meat-fest, they visit an enormous cowboy-themed food emporium (it’s much too big to call it a restaurant) that serves half a million people every day and a local farm shop serving spicy chicken enchiladas.

Summary

For the fourth leg of their journey, Dave Myers and Si King travels the 400 miles from Amarillo, Texas to Albuquerque in New Mexico. In Amarillo, the pair visit the oldest burger joint in the city, before riding to Palo Duro Canyon to explore a ghost town. Finally arriving in Albuquerque, they join residents to watch a game at the local ballpark and bake a chili chocolate pie to celebrate their cross-country adventure.
