Review

We’re now five weeks into the 17th series of Strictly Come Dancing – and as last Saturday’s shock exit shows, there’s still all to play for.

Fans were (understandably) up in arms that DJ Dev Griffin and his partner Dianne Buswell were knocked out of the competition despite emerging as one of the front-runners in the first three weeks – with some viewers going as far to call the judges’ marks “inconsistent”. But it just goes to show that even at these early stages, every vote counts, whether you’re at the top of the leaderboard or scrabbling at the very bottom.

This week, last-placed Alex Scott will want to redeem herself in the judges’ eyes with an upbeat charleston, while top scorer Karim Zeroual will be looking to retain first place with what’s set to be an interesting salsa to Baha Men’s Who Let the Dogs Out.

Meanwhile, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air fans will be pleased to welcome back guest judge Alfonso Ribeiro as he sits in again for Bruno Tonioli, who has commitments on Strictly's US version Dancing with the Stars.

Summary

Following Dev Griffin and Dianne Buswell's departure, Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman present the fifth live episode of this year's series. The 12 remaining celebrity couples take to the dancefloor, hoping to impress the judges and the viewers at home to make it through to next week's Halloween special. Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas and guest judge Alfonso Ribeiro will score the performances out of 10 before the voting lines open - giving viewers at home the chance to have their say and determine who will be leaving the competition.
