The Last Bow

Series 7 - Episode 13 The Last Bow

Review

After seven series, we reach the end with an odd finale that leaps three years into the future. With Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) now believed by the world to be dead, the writers get a chance to do their version of Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Adventure of the Empty House, the 1903 case that saw Holmes miraculously (and some would say, awkwardly) resurrected.

The trouble here is that the episode feels so hurried that the impact of Sherlock’s survival isn’t felt. And when we then jump forward another 12 months for a further leftfield twist involving Joan (Lucy Liu), we’re left with the impression that Elementary had plenty more storyline ideas planned, but was denied the time to execute them properly.

Summary
