Review

The road to romance is paved with awkward chit-chat in this rural dating format. Sara Cox returns to host nervous dates between farmers and would-be suitors who may or may not prove up to the rigours of country life.

And by rigours, I mean muck: if your first experience of a milking parlour is to get liberally, er… anointed by one of the cows, it’s a brave man who can keep his thoughts on love.

Grace, who’s 23, has invited three suitors – narrowed down via speed-dates in a pub – to sample life on her family’s dairy and sheep farm in Shropshire. She fancies them; they fancy her; only 120 cows and an all-hours work pattern can come between them.

Over in Yorkshire, 44-year-old Martin wants someone he can pass his farm on to. Is interrogating women on whether they want to have children the best tactic on a first date?

Summary

Sara Cox helps more people living and working in remote rural areas to find love. The first episode introduces Grace, a sheep farmer from Wales, and Martin, a dairy farmer from Yorkshire. Grace faces inheriting her father's business when he retires, so is looking for a partner who will be willing to share the responsibility. Martin has not had a relationship in more than a decade, so leaves behind his Doncaster roots to attend a speed dating event in London attended by women from across the UK who have written to the show.
