Review

When a dog gets a new owner in Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs, it’s inevitably emotional. But, as we see in this doc about the Wood Green animal charity, it’s not always that straightforward – there isn’t always an instant bond. An abandoned dog, such as Tiny, may be too nervous to go anywhere near an unfamiliar person. Then again, a boisterous dog may be too much for youngsters – the Kerry children are tearfully anxious about bundle-of-fun Daisy.

Mozart, on the other hand, doesn’t seem at all interested in his (lovely) potential new owners. We also see how distressing it is when an owner has to leave the dog with the home.

Summary

Documentary set inside Wood Green animal charity, following staff who are committed to matching their homeless dogs with prospective owners. In the first episode, a terrified terrier known as Tiny arrives after his owner of five years is taken into care, while child-friendly Daisy, a Cairn terrier, is the only one of Wood Green's charges deemed gentle enough for the Kerry family from Peterborough. Plus, Jack Russell Mozart and Zeus, a recently abandoned Staffordshire bull terrier, each try to charm couple Paul and Elf.
