News archive, chat show clips and exhilarating fight footage, confidently woven together, tell the life story of the greatest boxer of all time in Antoine Fuqua’s outstanding two-part documentary.
We have sad bravado to come but this opening half is all struggles and triumphs as a young man from Louisville wins Olympic gold before stunning the world repeatedly. First, he beats heavyweight champion Sonny Liston; then, if converting to Islam and changing his name weren’t iconoclastic enough, he allows himself to be stripped of his title as political fights temporarily replace sporting ones. The pace is brisk, and Ali shines through it all, blindingly.
Summary
Two-part documentary chronicling the extraordinary life of one of boxing's most iconic figures, delving into the life and legacy of Muhammad Ali. The documentary explores Ali's challenges, confrontations, comebacks and triumphs through previously unseen archive footage and recordings from the man himself.
